About Pilates

German born, Joseph Pilates emigrated to the United States in 1926.  He set up shop in New York City, teaching his method of physical fitness, that he coined "Contrology" based on the principles of Breath, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision and Flow as well as elongation, oppositional forces, uniformity, balance and strengthening.  He quickly became the guru of rehabilitation to dancers, and a fitness authority to celebrities and the general public alike.

Spheeris Pilates is proud to continue Joseph's work in primarily what is known as the original classical repertoire.  Joe's method has proven to be effective, safe and viable throughout over 90 years of practice by certified and trained professionals all over the world.

"Above all, learn to breathe correctly"

MARJORIE BIGGS

With 17 years of experience guiding bodies toward efficiency and ease, Marjorie views movement as a profound vehicle for self-discovery. Her journey began in 2009 as a graduate of the world-renowned 900-hour Comprehensive Teacher Training Program at The Pilates Center, Boulder. Over nearly two decades of teaching, she has meticulously expanded her toolkit to bridge the gap between high-level athleticism and deep somatic awareness. Her holistic pedigree includes over 500 hours of Yoga Teacher training - specializing in slow, alignment-based flows and the quiet resilience of Yin - and the completion of an immersive 3.5-year professional training program to become a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner in 2025.

At Spheeris Pilates, Marjorie’s offerings go beyond the traditional "workout" to offer a sophisticated neurological upgrade. She believes that our habits in movement are inseparable from how we navigate our lives, and her teaching seeks to illuminate those connections. By blending the core-strengthening precision of classical Pilates with the mindful alignment of Yoga, she helps clients build a resilient powerhouse from the inside out. Her expertise in the Feldenkrais Method® allows her to offer both group Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes and individual Functional Integration (FI) sessions, where she uses gentle, non-invasive touch to help the brain reorganize and "unlearn" the subconscious habits that lead to tension or restriction.

Marjorie’s style is defined by a slow, deliberate flow that prioritizes intentionality over momentum. Mindful doesn't mean easy - her Pilates sessions can be deceptively challenging.  By emphasizing anatomical alignment and neurological awareness, she helps you build strength without the "noise" of hurried/ unconnected movement, ensuring every repetition is meaningful and building skill before speed.  Whether you are in classes or working with her privately you will leave feeling remarkably capable and centered.

Come take one of Marjorie classes or schedule a Pilates or Feldenkrais 1:1.
